The Commissioner of Police in charge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Mr Haruna Garba has ordered a thorough investigation to ascertain the mystery behind the killing of Abuja undergraduate, Blessing Moses.
Moses, a 26-year-old undergraduate of National Open University of Nigeria was found dead and decomposing in the wood on September 20, in the Karimo area of Abuja.
The deceased was declared missing after leaving her place of work in Garki since September 11, 2023.
But Garba confirmed on Thursday that the police are determined to uncover both the immediate and remote causes of the tragic incident.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer in the FCT, SP Josephine Adeh on Thursday in Abuja, hinted that the police are working closely with the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) to retrieve the decomposed remains.
While acknowledging the sensitive nature of the task, he assured that the FCT command would continue to provide updates to the public as the investigation progresses.
She noted that the deceased disappearance was reported to the police on September 14, just as she condoled with the family of Moses over the loss.
However, the Divisional Police Headquarters, Durumi, Abuja, has arrested one Aminu, said to be the boyfriend to the deceased, following an interrogation over her disappearance.
The elder brother to the deceased, Genesis Karami had on Wednesday informed the Durumi Divisional Police that he received a strange call giving details about his sister’s corpse on Tuesday, but the information turned out to be false.
“The caller said he saw a female body in Idu, so we asked him to describe what she was wearing, and he told us exactly what we were told my sister wore to office the day she went missing.
“I was unable to contact the Durumi DPO and had to go to the police station at Karmo. But upon reaching there with a group of policemen, the caller kept toying with us as he kept changing location until we got tired and left.
“We saw her decomposed body in the bush here at Karmo, it’s not something we can move, we have to arrange with the environmental people to come and help us pack. We cannot travel with it. We just have to bury it here. It seems she died for days due to the nature of the decomposition,” Mr Karami added.
