Governor of Ebonyi, Hon Francis Nwifuru has commenced the distribution of palliatives to the people of the State to reduce the hardship accompanied by the removal of fuel subsidy.
The distribution was part of the activities lined up to celebrate Nigeria’s 63rd independence anniversary and 27th year anniversary of the creation of Ebonyi in 1996.
Nwifuru promised that the distribution would be replicated at the 13 Local Government Areas of the state.
The palliatives include bags of rice, fertilizers, sewing and grinding machines, cooking stoves, insecticide treated nets and mattresses, among others.
He assured Ebonyians that the palliatives would be distributed judiciously to deserving beneficiaries, adding that the state government has procured vehicles for workers as part of the palliatives.
The governor said that transportation services would be free as the government would do its best in reducing the effects of subsidy removal on the populace.
He commended President Bola Tinubu on his efforts in revamping the economy, just as he pleaded with Nigerians to be patient with his (Tinubu) policies.
Nwifuru solicited the continuous support, collaboration and patience from the citizens to move the state forward.
The governor expressed its readiness to revamp, rehabilitate and improve education, health, agriculture, water, internal roads, women affairs and other sectors of the state.
Responding, Team Leader of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Mr Kadiri Olarenwaju said that about 9,000 victims of the 2022 flood disaster in the state would benefit from the palliative.
