The Presidency has given insight into what may have transpired in the conversation between President Bola Tinubu and visiting US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken.
Blinken, arrived at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday where he met President Tinubu as part of his tour to the West African sub-region.
Earlier, he had stopped over at Cape Verde and Ivory Coast before arriving in Nigeria and is expected to leave for Angola from here.
On hand to receive him with President Tinubu were the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar; the Minister of Information, Mohammed Yusuf, and other top government officials
Disclosing the crux of the conversation with the US Secretary of States, President Tinubu, through his media centre said, “Discussions centred around food security, pharmaceuticals, climate action, blue economy development, science and technology, security in Nigeria, and the West African region.”
Further highlights of the conversation which were made known on the verified X account of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Media Centre, @PBATMediaCentre, were that the secretary expressed the readiness of United States’s firms to invests massively in Nigeria, especially in the area of technology development.
Already, tech giants from the US have teamed up with Nigerian partners to help meet President Bola Tinubu’s one million digital jobs initiative.
Meanwhile, a pledge of $45m for security was made for Nigeria and other West African countries during the conversation.
President Bola Tinubu used the opportunity to restate the need for Nigeria to have a seat on the United Nations Security Council.
