President Bola Tinubu on Thursday met with King Charles of England ahead of the 28th Conference of Parties (COP 28) Climate Action Summit also known as the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC) scheduled to hold from December 1in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The president who gave hints into the crux of his discussion with the British Monarch on his X-account, stated that it was a productive meeting aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s relationship with the United Kingdom and for them to tidy perspectives ahead of COP 28.
“I had a productive meeting with His Majesty, King Charles III of England who is also the Head of the Commonwealth, and a passionate climate advocate.
“The meeting was a significant step in strengthening the partnership between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, and I am optimistic about the positive impact our joint efforts will have on our planet’s future as we look forward to setting an equitable global standard for environmental stewardship at COP28,” President Tinubu stated.
President Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, had in a statement on Tuesday disclosed that “Tinubu, who will be participating in the World Leaders’ Summit on December 1 and 2, 2023, will deliver a national statement outlining Nigeria’s position on various thematic issues, including renewable energy and climate financing.”
He said that President Tinubu, will use the opportunity to actively engage in key sideline events that will further support the advancement of his avowed commitment to aggressively attract foreign direct investment for enhanced wealth creation and revenue expansion in the country, in addition to other events hosted by the Nigerian delegation.
Ngelale further stated that the Nigerian delegation to COP28 will actively explore opportunities to establish new and deeper bilateral partnerships to facilitate the implementation of Nigeria’s Energy Transition, Article 6 Projects, Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes, Technology Transfer, Capacity Building, and Methane Mitigation initiatives.
