The Minister of State for Agriculture and Food security, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi has said that the Federal Government is committed to ensuring food sufficiency and security in the country saying food security is the most critical part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Eight Point Agenda.
Speaking to reporters covering in his office on Tuesday, the Minister stated that the government is determined to get substantial part of the uncultivated hectares of land in the country cultivated to address the shortfall in food production and supply which propels corruption and other social challenges in the country.
Abdullahi noted that food security will enable Nigeria to fight the war against corruption and all manner of economic crises. Adding that some people take to corrupt ways of life as a result of hunger, just as some others take to crime as a result of poverty, which in itself can be substantially addressed by food security.
Speaking further, Abdullahi said, “When you secure the stomach of Nigerians, the tendency to resort to corupt practices or outright crime and criminality will be reduced.
“Just like government, Nigerians also need to take advantage of the enormous natural resources and the vast Land that we have by cultivating something wherever they find themselves as that will go a long way in tackling the shortage of food availability in the country,” he added.
