Super Falcons Defeat Cape Verde, Qualify For WAFCON

Nigerian senior Female national football team also known as the Super Falcons on Tuesday booked a place in next year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) with a 2-1 win against Cape Verde at the Estádio Nacional de Cabo Verde in Praia.

This feat is coming less than one week after Justin Madugu’s led side thumped the same team 5-0 in the reverse feature hosted at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja last Thursday.

Tuesday’s victory by Super falcons was in spite of the fact that they were without star striker, Asisat Oshoala, as well as defender, Ashleigh Plumptre.

Although, the day looked like it was going to be different, as the hosts took an early lead with an 8th minute goal from Racing Power striker, Ivania Moreira, which they held on to until half time.

It, however, took the late effort of UD Tenerife forward Esther Okoronkwo who was introduced for Uchenna Kanu for the Falcons to equalizer after seeing an initial goal disqualified.

The Nigerian side got the winning goal in the 93rd minute through Rasheedat Ajibade, who was also a late substitute in the game.
