Independence: FG Declares Monday, October 2 as Public Holiday

Federal Government has declared Monday, October 2 as public holiday in commemoration of Nigeria’s 63rd independence anniversary.
The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo disclosed on Thursday that the Federal Government is committed to tackling the challenges confronting the country.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Dr Oluwatoyin Akinlade in Abuja.
While congratulating all Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora on the anniversary, he noted that the difficult socio-economic and security challenges are global issues and Nigeria is not exempted.
The minister hinted that the government is making efforts to address the varied and numerous challenges until there is respite.
Tunji-Ojo stated that the eminent position of Nigeria in the comity of nations and the greatness ahead of the country is achievable if all Nigerians work together in unity.
He informed that the warm welcoming spirit and love, as well as the unbounded human capital and richness in the land makes Nigeria unarguably the leading black nation in the world.
The minister described Nigeria as Africa’s pride and beacon of hope for the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
While wishing Nigerians a memorable independence celebration, the minister recalled that our founding fathers, deapite the differences in faith, tribe and tongue united for Nigeria’s freedom that everybody enjoys today.
The minister assured that the present administration would fastrack a better Nigeria for all citizens, as a befitting tribute to heroes past.
As part of activities lined-up to commemorate the anniversary, a lecture will hold on Friday at the National Mosque Conference Centre at 10:00am, followed by Juma’at Prayer at the National Mosque at 1:00 pm
President Bola Tinubu is also expected to address the nation on Sunday at 7:00 am.
In addition, Inter-denominational Church Service will take place on Sunday, October 1st, 2023 at the National Christian Centre by 10:00am
There will also be a Military Parade on October 2 at the Presidential Villa by 9:00am.
