As the wet season advances, 13 Northern States and 50 communities may likely experience heavy rainfall that would lead to massive flooding between September 13 and 17.
Lagos Territorial Coordinator of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Mr Ibrahim Farinloye stated this on Wednesday in Lagos.
The states include Kano with communities like Sumaila and Kunchi; Kebbi with communities such as Argungu; and Bindawa, Jibia and Kaita in Katsina.
Others states are Niger, with Kontagora, Mashegu, and New Bussa communities, likewise Kosubosu community in Kwara.
Also, Zamfara with communities such as Kaura Namoda and Shinkafi; Bauchi with Bajoga, Darazo, Kirfi, Azare, Jama ‘are, Itas and Misau communities; Taraba with Bali, Donga, Lau, Serti, Mutum-Biyu, Yorro; and Briyel, Biu, Dikwa and Kukawa communities in Borno.
In addition, Adamawa with Ganye, Mubi, Demsa, Jimeta, Mayo Belwa, Numan, Shelleng and Song communities, while in Yobe, communities such as Dapchi, Gashua, Geidam, Kanamma, Machina and Potiskum may likely be flooded.
Another state to experience heavy rainfall and flooding is Gombe with its community, Nafada; and Gumel, Gwaram and Miga communities in Dutse.
Farinloye said that due to the rise in the water levels of Rivers Benue and Niger, communities along the two rivers, up to Bayelsa were advised to take precautionary measures in the coming days.
He endorsed the predictions by the National Flood Early Warning Systems (FEWS) Central Hub and Federal Ministry of Environment, Abuja.
