The Federal Government under the ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment has moved to support industrialists with the right policies that will remove all the bottlenecks hindering the expansion of production activities as part of its commitment to ensure food security, job creation, poverty alleviation and export promotion.
The Minister of Industries, Trade and Investment, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite stated this while inspecting the activities of production industries in kano to find out how they are faring and also collaborate with marketers and traders on food security.
According to the Minister, the inspection tour of kano is to sturdy the economic potential of the state which holds the largest market in sub-saharan Africa and also focus on how to expand their capacity for export promotion and job creation.
Dr.Uzoka-Anite pledged the government’s commitment to support the expansion of industries because according to her “economy can only survive if everyone is doing something”
While inspecting the Dala dry sea port, the minister noted that “when fully operational it will reduce congestion at the seaport and help us with what we call one stop export processing zone”. Adding that, “is part of the vision of the president Tinubu is to remove all road blocks and impediments in business especially in our seaports”
“Export is major priority area for us that is why we came to kano to see how we can improve export, so this facility your seeing here is going to help us to fast-track our export, improve speed of processing and reduce to a large extent the rejection we have seen to our export to produce” she added.
Earlier, Kano Sate Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperative and Industry Alhaji Abbas Sani Abbas Said that the state is working on the review of the obsolete policy on Commerce and Industry which was last reviewed in 1983.
According to the Commissioner, “we are in the middle of gathering data of all the industries in the state “this data will give us input to plan very well to know the exact capacity of our business and business line. We are working hard to carter for the informal sector so that it would be the source of revenue to the state. ”Adding that “we have the potential to grow but we need assistance,” he added
While in Kano the Honourable Minister also paid courtesy call to the Governor of Kano Abba Yussuff , visited Gerawa Oil Mils, Dala Inland dry port, Kano Tannery and Dawano Grain Market.
