Reps Adjourn Plenary as Sokoto Lawmaker, Danbuga Dies

The House of Representatives adjourned plenary on Wednesday to mourn the death of a lawmaker from Sokoto State, Abdulkadir Danbuga.
Danbuga, who represented Isa/Sabon Birnin Federal Constituency of Sokoto State, died in the early hours of Wednesday in Abuja at the age of 63.
His death was announced during the plenary by Ahmad Kalambina (PDP, Sokoto) in a letter to the House, which was read by the presiding officer, who is also the Deputy Speaker, Ben Kalu.
Kalambina noted that the lawmaker died after a brief illness in Abuja and will be buried in Sokoto today in accordance to Islamic rites.
The deputy speaker regretted that death often ended man’s quest for better life.
He said: Look at his toil to win the election. His toil to represent his people. All that money, all the effort, all that energy going down the drain today. It is sad. It is sad for the family; it is sad for the nation.
“We are united by this call to serve this nation. When one is down, we are all down. This is a sad day for the parliament.”
Shortly after the remarks, the Majority Leader, Julius Ihonvbere moved a motion for adjournment till Thursday.
Recall that in April, 2023, a member-elect, Isma’ila Maihanchi from Taraba State, died before the inauguration of the House.
