National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has uncovered about 399 pieces of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) enroute Kaduna State.
The 33-year-old Oluwagbenga Leke was intercepted by the officials of NDLEA while transporting the dangerous explosives from Ibadan to Kaduna.
Director of Media and Advocacy, NDLEA, Mr Femi Babafemi said on Sunday in Abuja, that the suspect was arrested on September 7, along Mokwa-Jebba road.
Upon arrest, the suspect claimed that the explosives were handed to him at a park in Ibadan, to be delivered to someone in Kaduna.
He stated that the suspect and exhibits had since been transferred to the military authorities in Niger.
In a related development, two suspects, Ahmed Yusuf and Rilwan Nura were arrested on September 6 in connection with the seizure of 100 blocks of cannabis weighing 55kgs along Abuja road.
Similarly, a suspected drug dealer, Yinka Azeez was also arrested at Sabo Lafenwa area of Abeokuta in Ogun Stats on September 5.
His arrest followed the seizure of 41kgs cannabis from one Titilayo Adetayo at Sagamu Interchange on September 4.
Also, two suspects: Muhammad Aliyu, 38, and Abdullahi Zakariya, 40, were arrested on September 5, along Zaria-Kano road and Hayin Arewa Hotoro in Kano state respectively.
The two were caught in possession of over 426.5 kilograms of skunk.
Babafemi noted that another suspect, Onyeka Uzor, 25, was arrested at Idemili, Anambra state, with 64.8kgs of skunk and tramadol.
He pointed out that Destiny Irabor was nabbed on Friday, September 8 with over 180kgs of Opioids loaded in his Toyota Sienna car.
But in Edo state, NDLEA operatives stormed the Ekudo forest in Onwude Local Government Area and destroyed cannabis farms measuring 4.236347 hectares.
The operatives also raided the house of one Amuodu Egwehide, 40, in Iloje Okpuje, Owan West LGA on Thursday September 7 and recovered 22 bags of skunk weighing 261.4kgs.
Babafemi disclosed that NDLEA officials arrested a 60-year-old grandma, Mrs. Eunice Egwehide in the same Iloje Okpuje with 17kgs of skunk.
Another suspect, Gapchiya Modu, 26, was arrested with 60kgs of cannabis along Kano-Nguru road, Nguru in Yobe state.
In Imo, 200 blocks of cannabis weighing 57kgs were recovered from Usim Orji, 45, along Aba-Owerri road on September 6.
Babafemi stated that after over two months of surveillance, NDLEA operatives had on Wednesday September 6 arrested a wanted kingpin, Idoko Festus Ifesinachi, 40, that was linked to the importation of 76.9kgs Canadian Loud.
The substance was uncovered in a container marked MSDU6686346 at the Port Harcourt Ports Complex, Onne, Rivers on June 2, 2023.
He noted that the suspect was arrested at his hideout in Lagos and taken to Port Harcourt for onward interrogation and prosecution.
