Federal Government has concluded arrangement to feed additional 10 million children through the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP).
The programme, which will be resuscitated soon is expected to close the feeding gap of children in public schools across the country.
Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on school feeding programme, Dr Yetunde Adeniji stated this on Tuesday when she visited the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp at the Transitional Learning Centre, Wassa, Abuja.
She said that the essence of her visit to Wassa was to inspect the school feeding programme sponsored by a non-governmental organisation, Maple Leaf Early Years Foundation in collaboration with the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons.
Adeniji commended the Wassa programme for the immense successes targeted at strengthening school enrolment and attendance rates.
She noted that it is one of the motivating factors meant to advance education, alleviate hunger and dismantle the cycle of poverty.
The SSA hinted that the school feeding initiative under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda was established for pupils from primary one to three across the country.
She revealed that the initiative resonated with the sentiment that every child deserves the opportunity to flourish and contribute to national development.
Adeniyi lauded the efforts of the NGO, adding that it underscored the paramount importance of education and nutrition in the comprehensive development of every child, irrespective of their circumstances.
She was optimistic that such initiative holds the power to effect substantial positive change in the lives of the most vulnerable citizens, noting that investing in children guarantees a brighter and more prosperous future for the nation.
The SSA assured that the Federal Government will engage small holder farmers to supply foodstuff for the school feeding programme as soon as it commences.
Part of the objectives of the programme was to increase resilience, promote equity, stimulate growth and reduce poverty.
Adeniji hinted that the Federal Government has committed huge amount of money to the school feeding programme, which would be complemented by state governments.
She pointed out that President Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of the nation was exemplified by the Renewed Hope agenda.
Adeniyi said that the vision of the APC-led administration is for every child to enjoy access to quality education and sustained nutrition irrespective of their background or geographical location.
While soliciting for more collaboration with relevant agencies, she praised some NGOs like Plane, UNESCO and various stakeholders for contributing to the noble endeavour.
