The Federal Government has built and handed over 40 units of houses to Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawan for onward distribution to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
At a two-day official working visit to Zamfara, Minister of Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu said that the gesture was part of Federal Government’s efforts to address humanitarian crisis in the state.
While commiserating with the government and Federal University Gusau over the recent abduction of 25 students, she noted that the visit provided an opportunity to revalidated social data of the vulnerable communities in Zamfara
Edu hinted that President Bola Tinubu had already given marching orders to security agencies to ensure safe rescue of the remaining people still in captivity.
The minister stated that her visit to Zamfara was long overdue considering the magnitude of humanitarian crisis that placed the state as a flash point of the ministry.
Edu disclosed that security and education were the top priorities of President Tinubu’s administration, which compelled him to introduce students loan and other scholarships to encourage more enrollment into university and other tertiary institutions.
Governor Lawan was excited with the ministers visit and her determination to collaborate with the state in tackling humanitarian crisis affecting the citizens.
He described the housing project as a critical intervention in addressing humanitarian challenges of the state, just as he pleaded with the minister to consider the construction of two additional cities in Zamfara North and West senatorial districts.
The Vice Chancellor of FUGUS, Prof. Muazu Abubakar assured that the management is working assiduously to encourage students not to be distracted by the ugly incident.
He appreciated the minister for the visit and appealed for more security intervention in the university.
