President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr Musa Aliyu as the new Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of Independent Corrupt Practices and other related Offences Commission (ICPC).
This is even as the President also named Mr Clifford Oparaodu as Secretary of the Commission, as contained in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Chief Ajuri Ngelale on Tuesday.
The President stated that the appointment was in exercise of the powers conferred on him as established in Section 3(6) of the ICPC Act, 2000.
He revealed that it was also in tandem with the Renewed Hope mandate to reform key institutions and invigorate Nigeria’s war on corruption.
The new ICPC Chairman’s appointment will be confirmed by the Senate.
Ajuri revealed that the President has approved the outgoing Chairman’s request to proceed on pre-end of tenure leave beginning on November 4, ahead of the expiration of his tenure in February 3, 2024.
The position of Secretary to the Commission does not require Senate’s confirmation, therefore, the appointment of Oparaodu takes immediate effect.
Aliyu had embarked on many far-reaching reforms as the Attorney General of Jigawa State since September 2019. He holds Bachelor, Masters and Doctorate degrees in Law respectively.
He was also named as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria-designate in October, 2023.
Oparaodu is a lawyer with over 30 years of experience and had served in the public service as a Member of the Rivers Judicial Service Commission.
He was also the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of Port Harcourt City Local Government Council.
The President enjoined the new ICPC management team to be above board as they discharge their duties without fear or favour concerning all matters before them.
